What are the Committees for?

The Board is supported in its work by a range of volunteer Committees:

  • Education & Training
  • Membership Services
  • Youth Services
Education & Training

This Committee manages the Society’s examinations and tests according to the approved syllabus and regulations, as well as:

  • the running of courses, seminars, training-sessions to maintain and improve the quality of teaching and examining throughout the Society and the community
  • the selection of the Society’s examiners, assessors, and adjudicators in accordance with the approved procedures to maintain the Society’s work in the field of examinations and tests
  • the appointment of Co-ordinator of Winter School and Depute Directors of Summer School from applications submitted by Society members
Membership Services

This Committee advises the Board on projects that will benefit our members and the wider Scottish country dance community. For example:

  • publications and recordings
  • strategies for marketing and public relations for the Society
  • regular maintenance of the website in conjunction with decisions taken by the Board and in other committees, in connection with Society events and the shop
  • promotion of membership, the formation and development of Local Associations/ Branches
Youth Services

The Youth Services Committee was formed in 2011 to listen to ideas from younger dancers and to give them the opportunity to plan and help organise activities for young people in the RSCDS. Their remit is to encourage and promote Scottish country dancing and its music to children and young people worldwide, and includes:

  • the establishment of an inclusive policy and strategy for the delivery of Scottish country dancing to children and young people in schools, colleges and universities
  • the development of policies and procedures to extend access to, support and encourage young dancer participation in demonstration teams, and the creation of a calendar of opportunities for such teams to display and share their talent and skills
  • the management of the Young Dancer Facebook page
  • the distribution and maintenance of RSCDS guidance to Branches wishing to develop initiatives to engage children and young people with SCD in their local area
How do I join?

In order to join a Committee, you must first be a member of the RSCDS (either an HQ member or RSCDS Branch member). We are currently seeking nominations from members who have a diverse range of skills and abilities to support the Society and help us achieve and develop our strategic aims"To grow a vibrant worldwide community of Scottish Dance and Music".

If you wish to nominate yourself (or encourage any other suitable members to put themselves forward) then the deadline for nominations is Saturday 12 September 2020 ahead of the elections at the AGM in November 2020.
