Branch profile
Before the tea break we run two parallel classes in adjacent studios; a general class for beginners and returners and an intermediate class for improvers. Both classes are run by RSCDS qualified teachers. After the break we have all our dancers together. This allows intermediate dancers to offer assistance, less experienced dancers the chance to dance in a wider social setting, and everyone to relax and have fun.
The classes are held at
Silverdale School,
2 Bents Crescent,
Off Bents Drive,
Sheffield S11 9QH
(There is a map on our website: www.rscds-sheffield.org).
Classes cost £4, but your first visit is free.
We run Social Dances on the first Saturday of many of the months of the season, usually with recorded music, but we have a live band for our Annual Ball in December and our President's Dance in June or July.
We run a very popular Day School annually on the last Saturday in October in the beautiful Hope Valley in the Peak District. We have live music during the day and at the evening social dance. Our guests also enjoy an excellent catered lunch and some of Sheffield's finest home-made cakes.
We would welcome visitors to any of our events: www.rscds-sheffield.org
The branch also enters teams at the annual ASCDS Festival and the White Rose Festival.
On our 40th, 50th and 60th Anniversaries we produced a book of dances devised by our members: the First, Second and Third Sheaf Collections (named for the River Sheaf, after which Sheffield was named). The 2nd and 3rd collections are accompanied by their own CDs of music: www.rscds-sheffield.org
