Roxburgh, Selkirk & Peebles
Branch profile
Roxburgh Selkirk and Peebles Branch covers the beautiful Scottish Borders from Peebles and Broughton in the west, to Kelso in the east, and Hawick and Jedburgh in the south.
There are clubs in 14 towns and villages, most of them of mixed abilities, who will welcome beginners and experienced danced alike. Details of the clubs are available on our website http://onlineborders.org.uk/community/rscda.
Classes run from September to Easter and take place in community, school and church halls. Each class has their own teacher and many dancers attend more than one class.
On Friday nights one of the clubs will host a dance with live music, great dances and a delicious supper where dancers get a chance to catch up with friends from other clubs.
The Branch hosts Autumn Classes in Galashiels at the beginning of term, which teaches members the dances from the latest RSCDS Book, and is very popular. Also there is a fundraiser Committee Dance which is danced to recorded music and funds a lot of the work done in schools led by our Youth Co-ordinator.
Most years we have a Day School in Melrose, with a visiting teacher and musician. This gives us another perspective on dancing and is great fun. The class is followed by a meal and a dance in the evening.
At the end of the year we have our annual Ball in one of the town halls in our lovely towns. It starts with the Selkirk Grace, followed by dinner and then dancing to a great band for the rest of the evening. It's a chance to put on our best outfits and show what dances we have learned that year, and say farewell until the autumn.
