Harrogate Saltire Scottish Country Dancing Club is open to anyone interested in Scottish country dancing whatever their level of ability. Our aim is to promote the enjoyment of Scottish country dancing and we welcome people young and old.
The club was formed in 1982 and we are affiliated to the RSCDS. We hold a dance class on Wednesday evenings from 7.45pm until 10pm with a break halfway through for tea/coffee and biscuits. Classes take place from early September until early May with a break at Christmas. The aim of the class is to learn to dance and improve on technique but at the same time have fun.
In addition to the weekly classes we hold three dancing events in the year which are attended by our members and dancers from other local clubs. The winter rant, usually held on the first Saturday in December, is a walkthrough which is suitable for both experienced dancers and those that have taken it up more recently. The Burns night ceilidh is open to everyone and is a good opportunity to bring friends and family along. No dancing experience is required. Our final event of the year is the summer dance, held in April which is suitable for more experienced dancers.
As well as our regular class nights we have a summer walk finishing with a pub dinner and an annual trip to Harrogate theatre with a meal beforehand. We also submit a team, together with the York Branch to the annual White Rose festival run by Leeds RSCDS.
