Group profile
Like most clubs our member numbers have fluctuated over time and while we are fewer than in previous years, we continue to thrive with a regular influx of new members most of whom stay to form the heart of the Society going forward.
We are also very lucky to continue to count as members some long standing, knowledgeable and experienced dancers. Two of those (being in their 10th decade and still regularly dancing) are living testament to the benefits of Scottish Country Dancing to mind and body.
The society meets at Caldy Valley Church, Chester on a Wednesday evening between September and March from 7.45 to 10.00 in the evening. We have had some talented teachers over the years and that continues now. The evening always begins with some warm up exercise or dance and often step practice for the benefit of all! We then have social dancing with a mix of new and old dances being taught or at least walked through and we are proud of our reputation as open and friendly with experienced members always happy to partner new or less confident dancers. The final part of the evening includes some dances chosen by a different individual club member each week.
We have a small Committee to whom the club always owes a debt of gratitude for the role they play in managing our resources and organising not only club nights but three wonderful dances during the year – at Christmas, Burns Night and during the summer break.
New members and visitors always welcome.
